Torrey Pines to Host Renamed PGA Tour Event ‘The Sentry’ in 2027

Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego will continue its storied association with the PGA Tour, as it hosts the newly renamed tournament, ‘The Sentry,’ in 2027. This announcement ensures that the annual event, which has been held at Torrey Pines since 1968, remains a staple on the PGA Tour schedule.

New Sponsorship and Community Focus

The tournament’s new title sponsor, Sentry Insurance, has partnered with the Century Club of San Diego to organize the event, scheduled for January 27-30. The tournament will conclude on a Saturday to avoid clashing with the NFL conference championship games. Sentry Insurance CEO Pete McPartland expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the company’s commitment to investing in the game and fostering community engagement in San Diego.

Formerly known as the Farmers Insurance Open, the event saw its last iteration under that name in January when Justin Rose claimed victory with a record-breaking performance. The Sentry at Kapalua, previously held in Hawaii, was canceled this year due to a water crisis, prompting the venue change to Torrey Pines.

A Legacy of Golf Excellence

The tournament’s rich history dates back to its debut as the San Diego Open in 1952. Over the years, it has undergone several name changes, reflecting its evolving sponsorship landscape. Notable past titles include the Convair San Diego Open, the Buick Invitational, and the Isuzu-Andy Williams San Diego Open.

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp highlighted the importance of maintaining the legacy of elite competition at Torrey Pines, a venue celebrated by both fans and players. The partnership with Sentry Insurance and the Century Club of San Diego aims to build on this legacy, enhancing the tournament’s philanthropic impact and community involvement.
