James Sprayregen, a renowned bankruptcy attorney, is joining law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison as co-lead of the restructuring and debt capital solutions practice.
Background
Sprayregen previously founded and led the restructuring group at Kirkland & Ellis, where he advised on high-profile bankruptcies such as Caesars, Toys “R” Us, and United Airlines.
He left Kirkland & Ellis in 2024 to become vice chairman of global strategy and growth at Hilco Global, a private investment firm.
Paul Weiss Expansion
Paul Weiss has been expanding its team, hiring five partners in June alone, including Sprayregen.
Scott Barshay, chairman of Paul Weiss, praised Sprayregen as a “superstar lawyer” and longtime friend.
Sprayregen will work alongside existing partners, including Paul Basta, who will step down as co-head of the restructuring practice at year-end as part of a long-term succession plan.
