Titusville police are searching for two suspects who fired at least a dozen shots at a home on Thomas Street early Saturday. Seven people, including a baby, were inside the home at the time, but no one was wounded or hurt during the scramble for cover.
Investigation Underway
Detectives said the two suspects ran off, then rode away in a white sedan that may be a newer Mercedes-Benz or Lincoln. The first officers arrived around 4:30 a.m. As the sun came up, the evidence became clear: at least a dozen holes made by bullets, including at least one that went through a window.
Interim Titusville police Chief Wright said, ‘This is a residential house in a residential neighborhood, 4:30 in the morning. People should have the right to feel safe in their house and not worry about bullets going into your house.’ A neighbor, Gracie Ramos, described the sounds of the shooting as ‘BA BA BA BA BA,’ which jolted her, her husband, and grandkids out of bed.
Ramos checked on the people inside the home that was fired upon and talked with one of them to make sure they were OK. She said, ‘He was very upset about what was going on because his family was there, his mom was sleeping in one of the rooms and his daughter with a baby.’ Police say security video they obtained from other neighbors shows two people firing shots from outside the home, running away, and then getting into a light-colored sedan.
With the shooters still at large, most were too afraid to talk with reporters on camera. Ramos told reporters, ‘It does scare me because I go to work really early in the morning and it’s still dark outside so, who is out there?’ If you have information that can help detectives track down the shooters, you’re asked to call Titusville police at 321-264-7800 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
Chief Wright said, ‘Firing into an occupied home demonstrates a reckless disregard for human life and places innocent families at unnecessary risk. The safety of our residents remains our highest priority, and we are committed to identifying those responsible and holding them fully accountable.’ The police are asking the community to partner with them by reviewing surveillance footage and reporting any information, no matter how small it may seem.
