Three Seats on Tarrant Appraisal District Board Up for Election in November

Fort Worth – Ten individuals have filed to run for the three at‑large positions on the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD) board of directors that will appear on the November ballot. The filing deadline was Aug. 17, and the candidates will draw their ballot order at 9 a.m. on Aug. 25 at TAD headquarters, 2500 Handley Ederville Road.

About the TAD Board

The TAD board consists of nine members: three elected countywide by voters, five appointed by taxing entities, and the elected tax assessor‑collector, who also serves on the board. Board members serve unpaid four‑year terms. Their primary duties are to adopt the district’s budget and to hire a chief appraiser, the paid official who manages property appraisals for the district’s 73 taxing units.

Candidate Roster

Syed – A mechanical engineer with experience in flood management for the city of Dallas. She previously ran for a TAD seat in 2024 and served two years on the Tarrant Appraisal Review Board, which handles taxpayer protests of assessed values.

Rebecca Hardy – No additional information was provided.

Phyllis Grissom – Works as a communications manager for Huckabee, a Fort Worth‑based architecture and planning firm.

Byron Haynes – A Realtor based in Southlake.

Hobbs – A government professor teaching at Arlington Baptist University and Tarrant County College. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Fort Worth City Council last year.

Paul Stockard – No additional information was provided.

Cheshire – Self‑employed consultant and vice chairman of the Tarrant County Republican Party. He previously ran for a seat on the Tarrant County College board of trustees in 2025.

Ambika Sharma – Community activist involved in the effort to place a data‑center moratorium in Fort Worth.

Matt Bryant (incumbent) – Serving on the board since July 2024, Bryant is a real‑estate investor who previously sat on the Carroll ISD board of trustees.

Adams – Senior vice president of mortgage operations at Texas Bank.

What Voters Need to Know

The three seats are elected at‑large, meaning each voter can vote for up to three candidates. This election marks the second time TAD board members are chosen by voters, following a 2023 constitutional amendment that created voter‑approved board positions in Texas’s largest counties.

For more detailed information on each candidate’s platform, voters should consult the candidates’ campaign materials or attend any scheduled candidate forums. The Fort Worth Report will continue to update this list as additional details become available.
