Three People Found Dead During Welfare Check in Inver Grove Heights Home

Inver Grove Heights, MN – Officers from the Inver Grove Heights Police Department responded to a welfare check at a home in the 3200 block of 78th St. East on Sunday. When they entered the residence, they found three people who had died inside the house.

Police response and investigation

The department released a statement confirming that the three deceased have not been identified publicly. A medical examiner has been assigned to determine the identities of the individuals and the cause of death. The investigation remains active, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has been called to the scene to provide additional forensic support.

No public safety threat

Authorities emphasized that, based on the information currently available, there is no known danger to the surrounding community. The police department asked residents to remain calm and assured them that the investigation is ongoing.

What is a welfare check?

A welfare check, sometimes called a wellness check, is a standard police procedure used when a family member, neighbor, or other concerned party reports that someone may be in danger or unable to care for themselves. Officers typically knock on the door, speak with occupants, and assess the situation. In this case, the welfare check led to the discovery of the tragic deaths.

Community reaction

Neighbors expressed shock and sadness at the news, though details about the victims and the circumstances surrounding their deaths have not been released. Local clergy and community leaders have offered prayers and support for the families of the deceased, underscoring the importance of faith and compassion during such a difficult time.

Next steps

The medical examiner’s office will conduct autopsies and toxicology tests to establish cause and manner of death. The BCA will continue to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and work with the local police department to piece together what happened. The police department has asked anyone with information related to the incident to contact them directly.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and to reach out for assistance if they have concerns about the safety or well‑being of themselves or others in the neighborhood.
