A Little League team in San Bernardino is facing a tough start to their season after a thief stole their equipment. The theft occurred on July 8, with thousands of dollars’ worth of baseball and softball equipment taken from the team’s storage behind home plate at the corner of Mount Vernon Avenue and 14th Street.
Community Rallies Around Team
Despite the setback, the community has come together to support the team. County Supervisor Joe Baca donated $2,500 to help the team replace their stolen equipment. The team’s president, Ben Salgado, is focused on finding a way to prevent future thefts, including upgrading the team’s storage facilities.
“They are constantly opening our gate with pliers,” Salgado said. “My goal is to get a new fence around the facility.” The team is determined to move forward, with Salgado saying, “Nothing will stop us. Even if we have one ball and a bat, we keep pushing forward.”
