Theatre in the Park: ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’

Theatre in the Park Producing Artistic Director Tim Bair discusses the upcoming production of ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’, a musical comedy that satirizes corporate America.

About the Show

The show, which opened on Broadway in 1961, follows the story of J. Pierrepont Finch, a cheerful window washer with a dream, a handbook, and just enough ambition to fool everyone. Finch discovers a little book called ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’ and uses it to rise through the World Wide Wicket Company with astonishing speed, zero qualifications, and the kind of ‘luck’ usually enjoyed by people whose uncle owns the building.

The musical features a range of characters, including Rosemary Pilkington, a secretary with a romantic heart, and Bud Frump, the boss’s nephew. The show is known for its witty dialogue, clever plot, and memorable songs, including ‘Coffee Break’ and ‘The Company Way’.

Performance Details

The show will be performed at the Theatre in the Park’s outdoor facility, located at 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee. The box office opens at 6 p.m. on show nights, and all productions begin at 8 p.m. General admission is $12, while tickets for youth are $7, both before taxes and fees.

TIP’s Thrifty Thursdays promotion gives theatregoers a 20% discount on Thursday night performances, but to claim this discount, patrons must purchase these tickets at the box office on the evening of the specific show. The first Saturday performance of each production features sign language interpretation, and some reserved seating is available for all shows.
