The most expensive hobby in Lubbock isn’t golfing, hunting, or restoring old cars. It’s friendship. The costs of maintaining friendships can sneak up on you, from birthday parties to concert tickets, and from engagement gifts to wedding presents.
The Financial Burden of Friendship
It starts with a birthday party, then suddenly you’re buying concert tickets because ‘we all decided to go.’ The next thing you know, you’re attending an engagement, a wedding, and then a baby shower. Before you’ve recovered from that, you’re already shelling out money for Girl Scout cookies, buying up someone’s kid’s raffle tickets, and tossing a few bucks in the hat to raise money for a softball league.
These expenses may seem insignificant on their own, but they add up over time. And let’s not forget the group dinners, fantasy football leagues, random road trips to gamble in New Mexico, meal trains, housewarming gifts, and retirement party decorations for Ed from accounting.
Despite the costs, friendships are worth every penny. Those same expensive friends are the ones who come in clutch when you really need them. They bring you soup when you’re sick, take care of your dogs when you go out of town, and they make an ordinary Tuesday way more fun and exciting.
