The Fishmonger’s Daughter Opens in Catonsville

The Fishmonger’s Daughter, a new restaurant in Catonsville, is set to open this week. The restaurant is a continuation of the 140-year Faidley’s Seafood tradition. Maryland’s First Lady Dawn Moore will preside over the official ribbon cutting and grand opening on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Restoration and History

The restaurant has undergone six years of intense and painstaking historical restoration in preparation for this moment. The space was once a branch of Heidelbach’s grocery store, which operated for decades before becoming Plymouth Wallpaper, which closed in 2017.

Damye Hahn, the owner, represents the fourth generation of the Faidley family. She spoke to Baltimore Fishbowl about her family’s Faidley’s legacy, her Catonsville roots, and how the new restaurant came to fruition.

Culinary Team and Menu

The restaurant’s culinary team includes Scott Bacon, the executive chef, and Maria Bell, the head of pastry and beverage. The menu is Maryland-centric, with a focus on local crabmeat. The restaurant is one of the few that sells primarily Maryland crabmeat, and it has been recognized as a ‘True Blue’ restaurant by the state of Maryland.

The restaurant’s capacity for seating is 168, and the event space on the second floor, called The Plymouth Room, seats 300. Reservations can be made online at Open Table.
