Greenville County – The Family Effect, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with the Phoenix Center, announced that it raised over $2.5 million in the past year. The funds are earmarked for continued renovations at Serenity Place, the Phoenix Center’s residential treatment facility for pregnant women and mothers with young children.
Building stronger families through recovery
Since 2002, The Family Effect has served as the Phoenix Center’s primary philanthropic partner, helping the organization provide comprehensive prevention and treatment services for substance‑use disorders. Director of Community Investment Amanda Davis said, “Everything The Family Effect does is designed to strengthen families. Our volunteers and staff are always looking at what’s working and finding ways to grow.”
Serenity Place is undergoing a series of upgrades that include larger bedrooms capable of accommodating cribs and toddler beds, as well as expanded communal living areas. These improvements aim to create a more family‑friendly environment where mothers can focus on recovery while caring for their children.
Pathways to lasting recovery
After completing intensive residential treatment at Serenity Place, many women transition to the LOTUS program, a network of recovery houses that supports independent living, employment, education and long‑term sobriety. The Phoenix Center serves more than 30,000 community members each year, offering individualized pathways to recovery that address both the individual and the family unit.
“Every improvement, every partnership and every dollar raised creates opportunities for women and their children to build healthier futures together,” Davis added.
Community involvement and volunteer support
The Family Effect operates with its own board and staff while drawing on volunteers from the Phoenix Center and the broader Greenville community. Volunteers help showcase the value of recovery by participating in fundraising events, outreach initiatives and hands‑on renovation projects at Serenity Place.
Local businesses, faith groups and civic organizations have contributed time and resources, reinforcing the shared commitment to healing families and eliminating addiction in the area.
