The Alpha School launches AI‑based curriculum for Pre‑K‑12 in The Woodlands

The Alpha School, a private education network headquartered in Austin, opened its latest campus in The Woodlands this fall. Designed for students from pre‑K through high school, the school uses an artificial‑intelligence platform to deliver one‑on‑one, mastery‑based tutoring that adapts to each child’s exact level and pace.

Small classes, big results

With a maximum enrollment of 65 students, the Woodlands location already counts more than 50 families among its ranks, according to co‑founder MacKenzie Price. The school’s approach keeps class sizes small so that teachers—referred to as “guides”—can focus on individualized support rather than traditional lecturing.

Core subjects such as math, reading, science and history are taught until a student demonstrates full mastery before moving on. Price says the AI platform assesses what a student knows, identifies gaps, and then builds a personalized lesson plan. The result, she claims, is that students learn “twice as much” in two hours of academic instruction compared with the six‑plus hours typical in other schools.

Life‑skill curriculum

Beyond academics, the school dedicates the afternoon to developing five essential life skills: teamwork and leadership; storytelling and public speaking; entrepreneurship and financial literacy; relationship building and socialization; and grit and hard work. Guides work with each child to provide motivational and emotional support, helping them build confidence and a sense of ownership over their community.

Extracurricular workshops such as “Alpha Mad Scientists,” “Alpha Animation,” “Lyrical Genius,” “Consultants,” “How to Buy Stuff,” and “Now You See Me” reinforce these skills in hands‑on settings.

Community response and future plans

Parents in The Woodlands have responded positively, with 40‑60 % of Alpha students indicating they would rather attend school than go on vacation. Price attributes this enthusiasm to the school’s focus on making learning enjoyable and relevant to real‑world challenges.

The school plans to expand further, aiming to open a new campus in the Houston area by January. Price emphasized the importance of offering families a variety of educational options, saying, “We think families should have the ability to choose the school that’s right for their children, and The Woodlands has been very open and inviting.”

What this means for local families

For families seeking a private‑school alternative that integrates cutting‑edge technology with a strong emphasis on character development, The Alpha School provides a novel option within The Woodlands. Its small‑class model, AI‑driven instruction, and life‑skill focus aim to prepare students not only academically but also for future leadership and entrepreneurship.
