Texas Senate Hopeful Talarico Courts Donors

Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico has been traveling the country to raise funds for his campaign, including a recent trip to the San Francisco Bay Area where he attended at least four fundraisers organized by major Democratic fundraisers linked to the tech industry.

Talarico’s Campaign Rhetoric

Talarico has built a reputation for his anti-corporate rhetoric and criticism of the tech industry, accusing it of profiting off ‘predatory algorithms’ that amplify extremism and promising to protect workers against ‘intrusive AI surveillance.’ However, his actions seem to contradict his words as he solicits donations from deep-pocketed tech executives.

Among the attendees at the fundraisers were venture capitalists, including at least one who advises AI start-ups, wealthy Democratic donors, and political staffers. Talarico’s campaign has raised over $40 million, with the vast majority coming from small-dollar donors.

Response from Opponent

Talarico’s opponent, Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton, has a history of accepting large-dollar donations. Paxton’s campaign spokesperson, Madison Cercy, criticized Talarico’s actions, saying the fundraisers are ‘just another chapter in James Talarico’s saga of lying and hypocrisy as he runs a flip-flopping campaign across the state of Texas.’

Talarico’s campaign spokesman, JT Ennis, responded by saying that Talarico is the only candidate who has outlined a comprehensive agenda to ban super PACs, ban corporate PACs, ban congressional stock trading, and tax billionaires to fix the ‘broken, corrupt political system.’ Ennis also stated that anyone who supports taxing billionaires more and limiting Big Money’s influence on politics is welcome to help defeat politicians like Paxton.
