Texas native Regan Hutsell crowned Miss America 2027, bringing pride to Lone Star State

Houston native Regan Hutsell was crowned Miss America 2027 on Saturday night in West Palm Beach, Florida, delivering a moment of pride for Texas. The former Radio City Rockette and Birmingham Royal Ballet dancer said she was “in absolute shock” after hearing her name announced.

From Texas to the national stage

Hutsell, representing Texas, emphasized that her new platform will be used to inspire others to pursue their dreams, no matter how distant they may seem. “I’m a firm believer that anybody can accomplish anything that they want to. As Miss America, I hope to inspire that in as many people as possible,” she told the crowd.

Her victory adds to a growing list of Texas contestants who have excelled at the national pageant, reinforcing the state’s reputation for strong performance in scholarship‑focused competitions.

Louisiana’s strong showing

While Hutsell took the crown, Louisiana’s Shelby Bordelon finished as first runner‑up, marking the deepest finish for a Louisiana contestant since 2021. Bordelon, a native of Monroe, said the experience was “a surreal dream come true” and a once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity.

“Our new Miss America, Regan Hutsell, is truly just such a gem,” Bordelon remarked, adding that sharing the final two with a Texas representative was especially meaningful for her home state. “Being there in the final two representing Louisiana, which is something that hasn’t happened in several years, was just such an honor. And I’m just so blessed that I got to experience that.”

Scholarships and community impact

Bordelon earned $13,000 in scholarship money for her performance, bringing her total award earnings to more than $40,000. She also placed first in the preliminary evening‑gown competition and performed a vocal talent despite recovering from an illness. “During finals, I wasn’t as confident in my talent. I’m getting over a sickness right now,” she said after returning to Monroe. “I walked off the stage a little bit discouraged and disappointed, but I really just channeled the resilience of pushing through.”

Both women highlighted the importance of scholarship opportunities provided by the Miss America organization. Hutsell plans to use her scholarship to further her education and to mentor young women across the country.

Looking ahead

Beyond the crown, Bordelon intends to continue her work in Louisiana, focusing on her nonprofit, Claire’s Promise, which aims to combat impaired driving. “It has made every childhood dream of mine come true,” she said, noting the 51 new “sisters” she met from across the nation.

The Miss America 2027 pageant once again demonstrated how the competition can serve as a springboard for young women to become leaders in their communities, promote education, and champion causes that matter to families and faith‑based organizations alike.
