El Paso, TX – The Texas NAACP will host its 89th Annual State Convention at the Hotel Paso Del Norte from October 1 through October 3. The three‑day gathering brings together leaders, members and advocates from across the Lone Star State to discuss pressing civil‑rights issues and to strengthen community partnerships.
Convention theme and goals
President Gary Bledsoe said the event’s theme, “Our Fight is Your Fight: United We Build the Beloved Community,” reflects the ongoing challenges Texans face in health, education, voting rights, historic preservation and economic opportunity. “This year’s convention is about more than a gathering — it is about strengthening the work we do every day across Texas,” Bledsoe told reporters.
Keynote address and program highlights
Hon. Leon W. Russell, chair of the NAACP National Board of Directors, will deliver the keynote address. The program includes policy briefings, advocacy workshops, economic‑development panels and community‑engagement sessions. Special attention will be given to active‑duty military personnel, veterans and young leaders.
Youth involvement
Skylahr Mimms, president of the Texas NAACP Youth & College Division, urged young people to take an active role. “Young people are ready to work, ready to fight and ready to lead, and we need all hands on deck to meet this moment,” she said.
Registration and participation
Organizations and individuals are invited to register online at texas-naacp.org. The convention offers networking opportunities, training resources and a platform for sharing best practices among civil‑rights advocates throughout the state.
