Texarkana police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after 19‑year‑old Fran’Davion Smith was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the front yard of his residence on the 400 block of Blanton Street on Monday night. Officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 10 p.m., found Smith lying on the ground, and pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to a spokesperson for the Texarkana Texas Police Department, Shawn Vaughn, detectives spent several hours processing the scene and collecting evidence. The department has not made any arrests, and investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened, including whether one or two shooters were involved, whether the gunfire came from a vehicle, and other circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Vaughn told reporters that the investigation is still in its early stages and that “at this point, the investigators probably have more questions than they have answers in terms of what happened.” He emphasized that the police do not yet know if the shooter(s) approached on foot, arrived in a car, or any other details that could clarify the incident.
Detectives are reviewing leads and actively searching for any surveillance footage that might shed light on the case. The department is looking for cameras in the area, including Ring cameras or other home‑security devices, that could have captured the events leading up to the shooting. Vaughn said that any visual evidence could provide critical insight and help identify the responsible parties.
Police officials stressed that information from the public could be crucial to solving the case and providing closure for Smith’s family. They urged anyone who saw or heard anything related to the incident to contact the Texarkana Texas Police Department or Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers at 903‑793‑STOP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online through Crime Stoppers at www.p3tips.com.
Smith’s body has been taken to Dallas for an autopsy, and the investigation remains active. Authorities continue to follow up on leads and are asking community members to remain vigilant and report any relevant information as soon as possible.
