Texarkana, Texas – The new school year has officially begun in the Texarkana Independent School District, with more than 7,000 students returning to classrooms across the district. The halls were buzzing with excitement as students arrived on campuses, including the Dunbar Pre-K Center.

Preparing for a Successful Year

According to interim Superintendent Sherri Penix, district leaders and teachers spent months preparing classrooms and campuses for the students’ return. Penix expressed her enthusiasm for the new school year, stating, ‘The energy in the building is such a positive energy. The teachers worked really hard to get everything ready, and it was nice to go out today and see new Tigers come in and Tigers that are returning.’

The district has introduced new technology, including interactive televisions, designed to increase student engagement and provide teachers with additional instructional tools. Penix believes this technology will be a ‘game changer’ for the district’s teachers.

Strong Partnership Between Schools and Families

As the school year gets underway, district leaders emphasize the importance of a strong partnership between schools and families. Penix stated, ‘We want to make sure that our parents know that we appreciate that and that we’re here to support them, and they’re here to support us. We’re all about making sure their child has a successful year.’
