Hundreds of Arkansas residents applied for federal energy assistance at a one-day event in Texarkana, hosted by the Central Arkansas Development Council in partnership with Southwestern Electric Power Co.
Summer Cooling Assistance Program
The event marked the start of Arkansas’ Summer Cooling Assistance Program through the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Valerie Ramsey, LIHEAP program coordinator, stated that the program helps families keep their lights on and their homes safe during extreme heat.
Approximately 200 applications were processed during the morning, with representatives from SWEPCO’s customer service and energy efficiency teams assisting residents with the application process. Customers received help completing LIHEAP applications, reviewing utility account balances, and learning about payment plans, bill assistance programs, and energy-efficiency incentives offered by SWEPCO.
The Summer Cooling Program runs through September 30. Those who missed the Texarkana event can call CADC at 501-326-6229 or visit CADC.com/Utility-Assistance for more information.
