Students in Texarkana, Ark., can receive free backpacks and school supplies at a giveaway event this Saturday. The United Steelworkers Local 752 Women of Steel, East Street Pawn, and Red River Credit Union are partnering to provide the supplies.
Event Details
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Labor Union Hall, located in the 3600 block of Washington Street. Organizers say the event is designed to help ease the financial burden many families face as school begins.
"It is something that we see that the community really needs," said Kerry Halter, USW Local 752L president. "We hear the struggles on families and kids and things like that. So it is just a small thing that we can take from Saturday and try to give back to the community for the kids."
Families can pick up free backpacks and school supplies while supplies last.
