Jackson, WY — Residents of Teton County can rest easy after a thorough recount confirmed the results of the recent school board election. The official recount, required by state law when a race falls within a one‑percent margin, verified that Keith Gingery, Ashley Sinclair and Stephan Abrams won the three open seats on Teton County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees.
Why a recount was needed
Election night on Nov. 5 showed an exceptionally tight race. The state statute mandates a full‑district recount when the margin between the leading candidate and the next‑closest contender is less than one percent of the total votes cast for the winning office. County Clerk Maureen Murphy explained that this safeguard ensures every vote is counted accurately in close contests.
Original vote totals
Initial results listed incumbent Keith Gingery with 5,428 votes, newcomer Ashley Sinclair with 4,861 votes, incumbent Stephan Abrams just 40 votes behind Sinclair at 4,821, and incumbent Reade Dornan trailing another 48 votes with 4,773.
Recount findings
The recount, completed on Nov. 6, produced only minimal changes. Gingery’s total slipped by two votes to 5,426, Sinclair lost three votes, bringing her count to 4,858, Abrams also lost three votes, ending with 4,818, and Dornan’s tally decreased by three votes to 4,770. These adjustments did not alter the order of finish, leaving the three winners unchanged.
What this means for the community
With the recount confirming the original outcome, the District No. 1 Board can move forward with its agenda to support families, uphold traditional values, and ensure a quality education for every child. The board’s composition reflects a blend of experienced incumbents and fresh perspectives, positioning the district to address local concerns such as school safety, curriculum transparency, and parental involvement.
Looking ahead
Board members are expected to convene soon to set priorities for the upcoming school year. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend upcoming board meetings, voice their concerns, and participate in the ongoing dialogue that strengthens our schools.
County officials praised the recount process as a testament to Wyoming’s commitment to electoral integrity. “Our voters can have confidence that every ballot was counted fairly,” Clerk Murphy said. “The recount confirms the robustness of our democratic procedures and the dedication of our election workers.”
