Why the celebration matters
Founded in 1876, Stillman College has long been a cornerstone of Tuscaloosa’s educational and cultural landscape, particularly as one of Alabama’s historically Black colleges and universities. The sesquicentennial theme, “150 Years of People, Purpose, and Possibilities,” underscores the institution’s commitment to nurturing future leaders rooted in faith, family and personal liberty.
College officials encourage participants to review the updated schedule for exact times and locations, noting that many events are open to the public. The celebration not only honors the past but also looks ahead to new opportunities for students and the broader community.
Community response
Local residents and alumni have expressed enthusiasm for the week‑long program, citing the events as a chance to reconnect with the college’s heritage and support its ongoing mission. The inclusion of worship services, family activities and athletic competitions reflects Stillman’s holistic approach to education—balancing academic rigor with spiritual growth and community engagement.
