A tragic accident occurred in Katy, Texas, when a Tesla crashed into a home, resulting in the death of a 76-year-old grandmother, Martha Avila.
Details of the Accident
The incident happened on Friday evening, around 8 pm, when a 44-year-old driver, reportedly using the car’s autopilot feature, lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the front of the house. The driver, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment, claimed he was using the automated driving assistance system at the time of the crash.
Jennifer Barbour, the victim’s daughter, described the moment she realized what had happened: ‘We heard a boom, it sounded just like an explosion.’ She found her husband and three children safe, but her mother was pinned against the wall, injured by the crash. Unfortunately, Martha Avila was airlifted to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The Tesla driver showed no signs of intoxication and was cooperating with investigators. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
