Two teenagers, Brayden Carter, 19, and Damarion Coleman, 18, were arrested in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in connection with the fatal highway shooting of Fisk University student Andre Bell, a 20-year-old member of Fisk’s basketball team.
Investigation Details
Bell was driving a white Nissan Sentra with two of his teammates on the night of the incident, returning to campus from a university gymnastics event at the Nashville fairgrounds. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department stated that investigators believe the motive for the gunfire was “jealousy.”
According to the investigation, Carter’s girlfriend was a member of the gymnastics team, and Carter reportedly did not like other young men talking to her. Police allege that Carter and Coleman were present at the fairgrounds that evening and followed Bell and his teammates with the intent of scaring the basketball players to keep them away from the girlfriend.
Carter faces a grand jury indictment charging him with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and three counts of using a gun in the commission of a dangerous felony. Coleman, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, faces the same charges in Davidson County Juvenile Court.
