Public petition drives momentum
A Change.org petition titled “Rename Nashville International Airport to Dolly Parton International Airport” has gathered more than 155,000 verified signatures. Launched in January 2025 by Lydia Popovich and Dan Dion, the petition highlights Parton’s impact beyond music, emphasizing her philanthropy and the Imagination Library literacy program.
State officials pledge support
State Rep. Todd Warner announced he will introduce legislation to support the name change, writing on the petition page, “Yes I will definitely introduce legislation to rename the BNA airport Dolly Parton International Airport!” Nashville City Council member Russ Bradford also said he will sponsor a resolution urging the airport authority to consider the rename, while noting the authority has final say.
Parton’s own view
In 2021, Parton asked lawmakers to withdraw a bill that would have placed a statue of her on the state Capitol grounds, saying she felt it inappropriate while the nation faced larger challenges. She left open the possibility of future honors, expressing humility and gratitude for Tennessee’s support.
