Teen Girl Shot in Early Morning Incident on Fort Lauderdale Street

Fort Lauderdale police responded to a shooting call at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Saturday morning in the neighborhood where Northwest 17th Avenue meets Northwest 9th Street. Officers found a 15‑year‑old girl with a gunshot wound and rendered first aid until Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived.

The teenager was then transported as a trauma alert to Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors reported serious injuries but said she is expected to survive. Police have not released further details about the suspect or the motive.

Family’s Account Suggests Personal Conflict

The girl’s grandmother, Cynthia Scriven‑Husband, told NBC6 that the family believes the shooting may have followed a confrontation with someone the teen knew. “My granddaughter was shot by a friend, an ex‑friend, we understand,” Scriven‑Husband said.

According to the grandmother, someone arrived at the home threatening the teenager, demanding a fight. “All we know is that apparently they came to the house and was threatening her and said they wanted to fight her. And her and her friends came out the door and the next thing they know was pow, pow, pow, pow,” she recounted.

Scriven‑Husband said she received a phone call about the incident and rushed to the home, finding her granddaughter lying on the floor surrounded by blood.

Investigation Ongoing

Fort Lauderdale Police have not identified a suspect and have asked anyone with information to contact the department. The investigation remains active, and authorities have not disclosed whether any arrests have been made.

This incident adds to a series of violent events that have affected the city in recent months, prompting community leaders to call for increased safety measures and stronger neighborhood watch programs. Local officials have emphasized the importance of parental involvement and community vigilance to help protect young people.

Community Response

Neighbors expressed shock and concern over the early‑morning shooting, with several residents noting the need for more police presence in the area. Faith‑based groups in Fort Lauderdale have also offered prayers for the teen’s recovery and for the family’s healing.

Police continue to investigate and encourage anyone with additional details to come forward. The department’s hotline remains open for tips related to the case.
