A second teenager has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl during a Fourth of July party in West Des Moines. Miles Lee, 17, was taken into custody without incident and will be prosecuted as an adult due to the seriousness of the allegation.
Investigation Details
According to West Des Moines police, the shooting stemmed from an argument between Lee and 18-year-old Bryone Sanchez-Zermeno, who was arrested on July 5. The confrontation escalated into gunfire, killing 17-year-old Teonnie Tillman of Ankeny, who detectives believe was an uninvolved bystander. The shooting occurred around 10:35 p.m. on July 4 at a large party in the 1100 block of 20th Place.
Sanchez-Zermeno was previously charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. Court documents allege he pointed a firearm during the dispute and threatened to shoot toward another person and the house.
The West Des Moines police investigation remains open, but detectives do not anticipate making any additional arrests at this time.
