TCU safety Jacob Fields arrested after alleged assault on teammate

Fort Worth – A former Texas Christian University (TCU) safety, Jacob Fields, was arrested this weekend following an affidavit that claims he assaulted teammate wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the locker room after practice on Aug. 13. According to the police report, Fields approached Ezukanma, who was looking at his phone, and allegedly punched him in the forehead before kicking him in the head.

Ezukanma suffered a brain bleed, concussion, and a strained AC joint, requiring a three‑day hospital stay. His family says he is recovering and hopes to return to the field once cleared by doctors. “The only thing he wants to do right now is be on the field,” Ezukanma’s sister Emelie said, adding that she wants “accountability” for the incident.

Police say Ezukanma told investigators the attack stemmed from a rivalry, noting he believed Fields was angry because he “was playing better than him in practice the day before.” Text messages shown to police indicate Fields expressed remorse, writing, “I made an emotional decision because of how I felt played the last few practices,” and promising to cover all hospital bills.

Fields has since turned himself in and is no longer on the TCU football roster. A spokesperson for Fields, PM3 Sports, said he has legal counsel and will let the legal process run its course, adding that there will be a time for facts and truth.

Team response

TCU head football coach Sonny Dykes praised his players for handling the situation, saying, “I’m proud of the way these guys have handled themselves. They’re young people; they work through things all the time.” The university is moving forward after a recent loss in its opening game, while the investigation continues.
