Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of ‘Yellowstone,’ is competing in the National Reining Horse Association Derby at OKC Fair Park in Oklahoma City. The 6666 NRHA Derby, which features riders and performance horses from across the country, is being held through June 21 and offers nearly $2 million in prize money.

According to officials with the NRHA, Sheridan’s television shows and movies have helped draw more people to the derby and similar events. ‘Taylor and what he has done on television has elevated the entire Western performance industry,’ said Cheryl Cod, who is managing the derby. ‘It’s fun to be a part of that, and Taylor really has a passion for this world.’
Outside of writing and producing, Sheridan led the purchase of the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, which is featured in his television series. The NRHA Derby was renamed the 6666 Derby presented by Markel in 2021.
