Hometown favorite Gabriel Diallo rallied from a set down to upend French qualifier Kyrian Jacquet 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-2 in the first round at Montreal. A wild-card entrant who grew up just minutes from IGA Stadium, the 24-year-old Diallo posted his first main-draw victory in his hometown and the 50th tour-level win of his career.
American Alex Michelsen prevailed 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 against Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff. A pair of Michelsen’s countrymen, Aleksandar Kovacevic and qualifier Michael Zheng, both lost in straight sets, to Portugal’s Nuno Borges and Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic, respectively.
