In Texas, qualifying items include clothing, footwear, and elementary or secondary school backpacks priced less than $100 per item, along with most school supplies under $100. Under Senate Bill 1415, the annual holiday takes place beginning on the first Friday in August. In Oklahoma, shoppers can purchase qualifying clothing and footwear priced under $100 per item without paying state sales tax.

Across all three states, exclusions apply to accessories, special athletic wear, protective equipment, and rentals. Louisiana does not have a back-to-school sales tax holiday.
