Tarrant Cities Woo Economic Development

Tarrant County cities are working to bring new businesses to their areas, even as available land becomes scarce. At a recent economic development forum, officials from Arlington, Mansfield, Haltom City, and Keller discussed their strategies for recruiting and retaining companies.

Challenges and Opportunities

Arlington, with a population of over 400,000, is about 95% built out, making it challenging to attract large companies seeking multi-acre campuses. The city is focusing on growing its tax base through the recruitment of energy, bioscience, aerospace, and film and TV production companies.

Mansfield, with a population of over 85,000, is working to retain its small-town charm while booming with new housing, sports facilities, and companies. The city is planning about 30 major projects, including road improvements and office development, and is strategic about land development.

Haltom City, with a population of about 50,000, has only about 250 acres of available land for development. The city is focused on recruiting advanced manufacturing facilities to build out the remaining acreage.

Keller, with a population of over 46,000, is about 98% built out. The city is seeking to increase its daytime population with more jobs based there and is working to build out its Old Town Keller development.

Supporting Small Businesses

Despite the challenges, all four cities are committed to helping small businesses grow. Officials from each city expressed their desire to support small businesses and provide resources for them to thrive.
