Target rolls out new Beauty Studios in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana stores this fall

Target is expanding its retail experience with the launch of Beauty Studios in hundreds of locations across the United States. The first wave of stores will open on Sept. 10 in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, followed by a celebratory in‑store event on Sept. 24.

What the Beauty Studio offers

The new studio is designed as a dedicated destination for beauty products. Shoppers will find in‑store advisors ready to provide personalized guidance, access to new‑to‑Target brands, and specialized product launches. A “dedicated minis assortment” will let customers trial emerging items before committing to full‑size purchases, and testing stations will allow hands‑on experience with the latest cosmetics and skincare.

Why Target is making the move

Target’s senior vice president of merchandising, essentials and beauty, Amanda Nusz, explained that modern shoppers want both the reliability of their favorite staples and the excitement of discovering trending items. “When guests shop for beauty, they want to pick up their standbys while also exploring what’s new and trending, and Target Beauty Studio is designed with that mix in mind,” Nusz said. She added that the studio reflects Target’s broader merchandising authority and aims to elevate the guest experience.

Local impact in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana

For communities in the three states, the rollout promises new job opportunities in retail and beauty consulting, as well as a fresh reason to visit local Target stores. The studios will be situated within existing store footprints, meaning no new construction is required, but staffing will increase to support the advisory and testing components.

Local consumers can expect a more curated shopping environment that aligns with family‑friendly values—offering a safe, well‑staffed space where parents can shop alongside their children and receive expert advice on age‑appropriate products.

National rollout timeline

Target plans to launch the Beauty Studio concept in more than 600 stores nationwide over the coming months. While the initial focus is on the Midwest locations, the company indicated that additional stores in other regions will follow later in the fall.

Customers interested in visiting a Beauty Studio can check Target’s website for the full list of participating locations. The company encourages shoppers to attend the Sept. 24 celebration events, which will feature product demonstrations, exclusive samples and promotional offers.

What this means for the retail landscape

The move comes after Target and Ulta Beauty ended their in‑shop partnership earlier this year. By creating its own in‑store beauty experience, Target aims to retain customers who might otherwise travel to specialty retailers. Industry analysts suggest that the Beauty Studio could set a new standard for department‑store beauty sections, blending convenience with a boutique‑like atmosphere.

Overall, the launch reflects Target’s strategy to deepen its foothold in the beauty market while providing local shoppers with a modern, family‑oriented destination for cosmetics, skincare and personal care products.
