Target has recalled certain lots of its Up & Up brand baby wipes due to possible bacterial contamination. The recall affects fragrance-free and cucumber-scented wipes with specific UPC codes and expiration dates.
Recall Details
The recall was initiated after Target received complaints about discolored wipes. FDA testing revealed the presence of two types of bacteria, Burkholderia cepacia and Burkholderia gladioli, in product samples. The FDA has designated the recall as a Class I recall, which means there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to the violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
The bacteria pose a major risk to immunocompromised people and children, who are more likely to experience infections that spread to the bloodstream. Healthy adults are at a lower risk, but may still experience local infections through skin lesions.
Customers are advised to immediately stop using the affected products and return them to Target for a full refund. The recall applies to specific lots of Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber-Scented Baby Wipes with certain UPC codes and expiration dates.
