Target and Amazon alert shoppers to recalled cake doughnuts with undeclared milk

Consumers in communities across the United States have been notified that a specific batch of pre‑packaged cake doughnuts sold at Target stores and on Amazon.com may contain an undeclared allergen. The Better Bakehouse Snack Company announced a recall on August 24 after discovering that the Donutful Chocolate Dipped Vanilla Cake Doughnuts were mislabeled and listed no milk, one of the nine major allergens required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Recall details

The affected product is sold in packs of ten mini doughnuts with UPC 3 50041 39210 3. The recalled items carry a “best if used by” date of September 15, 2026, and lot code 26078. These doughnuts were produced in March 2026 by a contract manufacturer and distributed nationwide to retailers, including Target, as well as through Amazon’s online marketplace.

Consumer guidance

The Better Bakehouse Snack Company advises anyone who purchased the recalled doughnuts to either discard the product or return it to the point of purchase for a refund, provided a receipt is available. Refunds can also be processed directly through the retailer’s customer‑service channels.

Allergic reaction reported

To date, only one individual has reported an allergic reaction linked to the undeclared milk in the doughnuts. The person has since recovered, according to the recall notice. While the incident appears isolated, the company and regulators emphasize the importance of accurate labeling to protect those with food allergies.

Regulatory background

The FDA requires that manufacturers clearly list the presence of any of the nine major allergens—milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame—on product packaging. Undeclared allergens can pose serious health risks, especially for individuals with severe sensitivities.

What retailers are doing

Target and Amazon have both issued public statements confirming they are removing the affected product from shelves and online listings. Both retailers are working with the manufacturer to ensure that future batches are correctly labeled and meet all FDA requirements.

How to stay informed

Consumers can monitor recall updates through the FDA’s website or by subscribing to alert services offered by Target and Amazon. The Better Bakehouse Snack Company also encourages customers to contact their customer‑service line for any questions regarding the recall.

This recall underscores the ongoing responsibility of food producers, retailers, and regulators to safeguard public health, especially for families who rely on clear labeling to protect loved ones with food allergies.
