Tanner O’Quin Appointed as Benson’s Interim Town Manager

The town of Benson has appointed Tanner O’Quin as its interim town manager, following a decision made during a meeting on Wednesday evening. O’Quin, who currently serves as the town’s planning director, will take on the additional responsibilities of overseeing the town’s day-to-day operations and assisting the Board of Commissioners in addressing the community’s needs.

Transition in Leadership

This appointment comes after the resignation of the previous town manager, Dane Rideout, and assistant town manager, Calla Godwin, in May. Rideout’s resignation followed the circulation of a video showing an outburst during a town meeting. Godwin, who has been acting as town manager, will step down once O’Quin is officially sworn in on June 8 at 7 p.m.

O’Quin expressed confidence in his ability to manage both roles, stating, “My role now will be split as I continue to operate as the planning director and interim manager. I have an amazing team that I can rely on to help steer the ship.”

Future Plans for Benson

The town of Benson continues its search for a permanent town manager, with a focus on maintaining high-quality public services, responsible financial management, and pursuing economic development opportunities to prepare for future growth. O’Quin’s previous experience in Durham and Lee counties, before joining Benson in April 2025, positions him well to guide the town during this transitional period.

The community looks forward to seeing how O’Quin will balance his dual roles and contribute to the town’s ongoing development and stability.
