Tampa Leaders Oppose Kanye West Concert

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Naples, and Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Tampa, are leading a bipartisan effort to stop Kanye West from performing in Tampa. The hip-hop artist has made public antisemitic comments in recent years, including posting pro-Nazi statements on social media and selling shirts with swastikas on them.

Local Leaders Speak Out

Scott labeled West an antisemite and called for the Tampa Sports Authority to cancel his concerts at an event at The Florida Holocaust Museum. "We should never allow antisemitism anywhere, and we have to stand up against it," Scott said. Moody, who grew up in the Tampa Bay area, said every taxpayer should be upset about West’s show, not just Jewish residents.

West has apologized for his antisemitic statements, citing his bipolar disorder as a factor. However, Jewish residents in Tampa say the apology is not enough. The Florida Holocaust Museum will waive entry fees on June 26, 27, and 28 in response to West’s shows.
