Tampa Jewish Federation Protests Kanye West Concert

The Tampa Jewish Federation and the Florida National Organization for Women (FL NOW) have joined the protest against Kanye West’s upcoming concert in Tampa, citing his past antisemitic remarks as unacceptable.

Protest Against Hate Speech

Eric Stillman, president of The Florida Holocaust Museum, expressed concerns that hosting West would send a message that anti-Jewish bigotry can be accepted or overlooked for the sake of a concert. Stillman said that West’s apology for his past remarks was not sincere, as he did not take any actions to demonstrate a change of heart.

Debbie Deland, vice president of FL NOW, said that free speech should not apply to hate speech, and that giving West a platform would normalize and glorify his past remarks. The Tampa Sports Authority, which operates Raymond James Stadium, said that it follows the principles of free speech but does not condone remarks or actions that are offensive and divisive.

The Florida Holocaust Museum will offer free admission from June 26-28, the days of West’s concert, to provide an opportunity for people to educate themselves about the Holocaust and promote a positive message.
