The Tampa Water Department has closed the intersection of North 15th Street and East 5th Avenue for emergency system maintenance. The closure, which began at 9:00 a.m. on June 17, is expected to last until 4:00 p.m. on June 18.
City officials stated that the total closure is required to safely perform maintenance on the area’s water distribution system. The construction zone blocks off a multi-block radius around the central intersection, with North 15th Street closed between East 4th Avenue and East 6th Avenue, and East 5th Avenue blocked off between North 14th Street and North 16th Street.
City workers have placed barricades and detour signs throughout the neighborhood to help reroute drivers and keep traffic moving. Local authorities are asking commuters to seek alternative routes and to use extra caution if they must drive near the work zone.
