A pair of good Samaritan boaters rescued a man on a capsized boat near Davis Islands on Sunday.
Rescue Details
Stephanie Blackmon, one of the good Samaritans, said she and her friend were out on a boat when they saw the man struggling in the water. Blackmon said, “You could see fear on his face… So that’s when we knew” he needed help.
Blackmon and her friend jumped into action, pulling the man to safety and even managing to tow his boat and sail back to shore. Blackmon said she learned a lot from the experience, including the importance of sending a life vest first, calling 911, and then helping a struggling person onto the boat.
Boating Safety Tips
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission provides safety tips for all boaters, including having life jackets and the ability to call 911 when on the water.
