A brush fire, known as the Taffle Fire, is burning on the edge of San Bernardino National Forest, near Hemet, California. The fire was reported at 12:30 p.m. and has burned about 40 acres of vegetation.
Water-dropping air tankers and a helicopter are responding to the fire. Firefighters are working to contain the flames south of Red Mountain Road and east of Oak Drive in the sparsely populated area.
Evacuation warnings have been issued for residents in the area east of Oak Drive, north of Taffle Ranch Road, and south of Red Mountain Road. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
