Syria will host a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to announce significant progress on the issue of nuclear materials, according to Syria’s Atomic Energy Commission.
The IAEA has been working with Syria’s new authorities to address the legacy of nuclear activities during the Assad family rule. Syria is not known to hold operational stockpiles of nuclear material for a weapons program, but Israel bombed a suspected Syrian nuclear reactor in 2007.

The IAEA found traces of uranium in its investigation into the site of the suspected reactor. The agency plans to conduct further work in the area to achieve full clarity regarding past nuclear activities in Syria.
A Syrian official said discussions with the IAEA on the nuclear material file are still underway, and no final agreement has been concluded. The official also stated that there is no Israeli role in this process.
