Suspect Arrested in Minden Shooting Incident

A suspect has been apprehended in connection with a shooting that occurred in Minden, Louisiana, on Friday night, leaving one individual wounded. Minden Police Chief Jared McIver reported that the suspect was arrested and booked for attempted second-degree murder within 12 hours of the incident.

Incident Details

The shooting took place shortly after 8 p.m. on Talton Street, near the intersections of Peach and Plum streets. The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the upper right shoulder, had already sought medical attention at Minden Medical Center by the time officers arrived. Fortunately, the injury was not deemed life-threatening.

According to preliminary investigations, the altercation began at Abraham’s Food Mart on Talton Street and escalated when the suspect followed the victim’s vehicle, firing multiple shots from a gray Honda Civic. Witnesses reported hearing four to five gunshots, and officers recovered three spent shell casings at the scene.

Investigation and Arrest

Authorities issued a “be on the lookout” alert for the suspect’s vehicle. Utilizing surveillance footage and license plate reader technology, detectives tracked the vehicle’s movements. A deputy with the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle on U.S. Highway 371, south of Sibley, early Saturday morning. Although the suspect was not in the vehicle at the time, information led officers to a residence on Virginia Avenue, where the suspect was ultimately arrested.

A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from the vehicle, though investigators are still determining if it was the weapon involved in the attack. The motive remains unclear, with the victim suggesting a possible case of mistaken identity.

Chief McIver praised the collaborative efforts of the Minden police officers and the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office in swiftly identifying and capturing the suspect. “Our guys worked around the clock,” McIver stated. “We’re thankful for the Sheriff’s Office’s assistance in locating the vehicle and apprehending the suspect.” The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
