A recent survey by Aeroflow Breastpumps found that nearly 4 out of 5 moms planned to breastfeed for at least four months, and more than half hoped to continue for seven months or longer. However, many moms struggled to meet these goals due to unexpected challenges.
Challenges Faced by Moms
The survey revealed that nearly three-quarters of moms experienced stress or anxiety related to breastfeeding and keeping their baby fed. Additionally, 1 in 4 moms reported low confidence in breastfeeding after giving birth.
The survey also found that many moms were unaware of the breastfeeding benefits covered by their insurance before giving birth. Furthermore, some moms did not receive the support they wanted due to lack of knowledge about available resources.
Importance of Workplace Support
The survey highlighted the importance of workplace support for breastfeeding moms. Many moms faced barriers in the workplace, including limited access to appropriate pumping accommodations. Only 21% of respondents felt that their employer had a workplace lactation policy in place, and 44% reported lacking an adequate pumping space.
Employers can play a crucial role in supporting breastfeeding moms by providing dedicated pumping spaces, clear lactation policies, and a workplace culture that supports breastfeeding employees.
