Sunshine City Paint to Open in St. Pete’s EDGE District

Julianne Gioscio, a former U.S. Marine Corps aircraft mechanic, is bringing her passion for art to St. Petersburg with the opening of Sunshine City Paint next month. Located at 909 Central Avenue in the EDGE District, the studio will offer a unique blend of painting experiences combined with a ‘sip’ element, featuring beer, wine, and seltzers.

From Military to Art

Gioscio’s journey to entrepreneurship is a testament to her diverse background and dedication. After serving five years in the military, she is now pursuing her lifelong passion for art professionally. The opening of Sunshine City Paint marks a ‘full circle’ moment for Gioscio, who has always dreamed of creating a welcoming space for art enthusiasts of all levels.

A Community-Centric Studio

The 1,154-square-foot studio is designed to be ‘warm and welcoming to beginners,’ according to Gioscio. Whether visitors come with family, friends, or alone, they are encouraged to take a break from daily life and immerse themselves in art. The studio offers a variety of options, including blank canvases and premade designs such as flowers and animals, allowing guests to create at their own pace in a relaxed paint lounge.

In addition to self-guided sessions, Sunshine City Paint will host classes led by Gioscio and other local artists. These classes aim to provide guidance and build confidence in participants’ artistic abilities. For younger artists, the studio offers an ‘Open Canvas’ experience from 8 to 11 a.m., where children can paint freely, followed by guided classes for those aged four and older.

Rooted in St. Pete’s Vibrant Art Scene

Gioscio’s choice to establish her business in St. Petersburg is influenced by her time stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa and her love for the St. Pete Pier area. She was drawn to the city’s vibrant art culture and the dynamic atmosphere of the downtown area. Finding a location in the EDGE District was challenging, but Gioscio believes it is the perfect fit for her business, complementing the local restaurants and bars.

Sunshine City Paint aims to offer a flexible and enjoyable experience for its customers, even providing mini canvases as souvenirs or for quick painting sessions. Gioscio’s vision is to create an environment where art can become a passion or a hobby for anyone who walks through the door.
