Sunland Park, N.M. – Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino has wrapped up a multi‑month, $2 million renovation project that was carried out while the casino remained open. The upgrades were completed in phases, allowing patrons to continue gambling and watching races as work progressed in separate sections of the building.
Phased construction kept the doors open
According to Fred Heinrich, the casino’s president and general counsel, the property was divided into ten distinct zones. Workers focused on one zone at a time, so guests could move freely through the remaining areas. “Sunland Park, as you can see, has gone through an amazing transformation over the course of the last year or so,” Heinrich said. “We’ve got an all‑new slot floor, new food and beverage operations and all sorts of fantastic opportunities.”
New amenities for patrons
The renovation introduced a completely redesigned slot floor featuring the latest gaming machines, as well as refreshed dining spaces that offer a broader menu and modern décor. In addition, the casino’s food and beverage operations have been expanded to include new concepts aimed at families and casual diners alike.
Operating hours have also been extended to accommodate the increased traffic. The casino will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.
Upcoming race schedule
Racing activities are set to resume on January 8, 2027, giving horse‑racing fans another reason to visit the newly upgraded venue. The combination of fresh gaming options, expanded dining, and a full race calendar positions Sunland Park Casino as a premier entertainment destination for residents of the tri‑state area.
Heinrich emphasized that the casino remains committed to serving the community, noting that the renovation was designed to enhance the overall guest experience without disrupting daily operations. “We are very excited to continue welcoming guests and to have them come and discover the new amenities the casino will offer,” he added.
Local residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the updated facilities, enjoy the extended hours, and attend the upcoming races. The renovation reflects Sunland Park’s ongoing investment in its tourism and entertainment infrastructure, supporting jobs and economic activity in the region.
