Generations of Suncoast High School graduates converged in Riviera Beach this weekend for Charger Nation Alumni Weekend, a heartfelt tribute to the original campus slated for demolition and redevelopment.
Celebrating decades of memories
The weekend kicked off Thursday evening with a homecoming football game that featured both former and current students, underscoring the lasting bond among alumni. Carmen Napier, president of the Suncoast High School Alumni Association, explained the motivation behind the event: “We created the association, the logo, and made it happen so we could honor the campus one last time in our own way.”
Sam Blue, Executive Board Secretary of the alumni association, expressed excitement at seeing multiple generations together. “From me being in the 2000s and speaking with older graduates from the ’70s and ’80s, hearing their stories gives you a different perspective and a sense of pride,” he said.
Games, tributes and community involvement
The weekend schedule includes a senior alumni basketball game at the former Suncoast campus—now Inlet Grove Community High School—followed by a “Charger Nation Takeover” reunion on Saturday at the Dan Calloway Complex. Attendees will enjoy games, meet local officials, and see recognitions for former homecoming royalty and beloved coaches such as Al Sutton, whom alumnus Pete Ebel remembered fondly: “I played for him all three years. Loved the man. Loved him like a father.”
Alumni like Angela Clarke (class of 1993) and Ted Okolichany (class of 1978) reflected on the school’s diverse and close‑knit community. “What I love most about Suncoast was the diversity. We had a lot of fun,” Clarke said, while Okolichany added, “My class was tight, and we remain tight to this day. We love each other, and that’s what I like about Suncoast. We’re Chargers for life.”
Supporting future students
All proceeds from Charger Nation Alumni Weekend will be directed toward student academic scholarships and community outreach programs, ensuring that the spirit of Suncoast continues to benefit current learners.
The celebration concludes Sunday, giving alumni a final chance to reconnect, reminisce, and honor a campus that shaped their lives.
