Summit Storm girls soccer opens season with 2-0 win over Lake Oswego

Summit High School’s Storm girls soccer team kicked off the 2026 season with a statement win on Tuesday, defeating 6A Lake Oswego 2‑0. Senior forward Nina Taft, playing varsity for the first time, netted the decisive goal and celebrated the milestone with tears of joy.

Taft’s first varsity goal fuels confidence

“I mean, I’m a senior, and this is my first year on varsity,” Taft said after the match. “I still feel the adrenaline. I could literally cry. It’s just such a great feeling. It’s awesome.” Her goal not only secured the win but also marked her first at the varsity level, a moment she attributes to the entire team’s effort.

“I already love this team. I know these girls so well, and I think we’re already building such great chemistry,” Taft added, emphasizing the strong bonds forming early in the season.

Defensive leadership from Gobershock

Defensive stalwart Ruth Gobershock highlighted the team’s resilience after an early concession to Lake Oswego. “We conceded really early, and I think that kind of put things into perspective,” she explained. “We needed to lock it down. Being able to come back from that shows our resilience as a team and shows how strong we are.”

Gobershock and the back line have welcomed new faces after the graduation of several key defenders. Their confidence and work ethic have already paid dividends, setting a tone of accountability and teamwork.

Second win solidifies perfect start

Four days later, Summit continued its dominant run, blanking Wilsonville 5‑0. The shutout underscored the defensive unit’s rapid cohesion and the offense’s growing firepower.

“It feels so good,” Gobershock said of the team’s start. “We went into it confident. Of course, there were some first‑game nerves, but we knew we had each other. We were going to put in the work for each other, put in the work for ourselves, and just come away with the win.”

Looking ahead

With a 2‑0 record, the Storm are eager to maintain momentum as they approach tougher conference matchups, including a forthcoming game against Bend High. “We’re really just going to continue doing what we’re doing,” Taft affirmed. “We’re going to show up for each other, put in the work at practice, and give it our all.”

The early success has bolstered the team’s confidence and chemistry, promising an exciting season for Summit supporters and the broader Bend community.
