Rockford, Ill. – The beloved holiday tradition known as Stroll on State is set to grow this year, extending its festivities into Davis Park for the 2026 celebration. The expansion means a longer parade route, additional activities, and more opportunities for families to gather in downtown Rockford.
Event schedule and new parade route
The celebration begins Saturday, November 28, at 2 p.m. with a brand‑new parade route. Floats and balloons will launch from the intersection of State and Wyman streets, travel east along E. State Street, cross the State Street Bridge and conclude at Third Street. Spectators are encouraged to claim a viewing spot by 1 p.m. to enjoy the colorful procession.
Dasher Dash 5K run
Before the parade, the Dasher Dash 5K run kicks off at noon. Runners will start and finish at Davis Park, offering a scenic, family‑friendly course that highlights the park’s winter charm.
Outdoor entertainment and holiday traditions
From 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., downtown Rockford will host an outdoor screening of the classic film The Grinch, complete with appearances by the Grinch himself and Cindy Lou Who. Throughout the day, local vendors, live musical acts and other entertainment will line the streets, creating a festive atmosphere for shoppers and visitors.
Ice skating will be available at the BMO Center, while the Nielsen Chorale Ancora leads holiday caroling. The Rockford Dance Company will provide dancing performances, adding to the lively spirit of the event.
Tree lighting, drone show and fireworks
The holiday tree lighting ceremony begins at 6 p.m., moving the illuminated tree to the riverfront in Davis Park. A synchronized drone show follows at 6:15 p.m., lighting up the night sky with holiday designs. The evening concludes with a fireworks display at 8:30 p.m., capping off a day of community celebration.
Volunteer opportunities
Organizers are calling on Rockford residents to help make the event a success. Those interested in volunteering can sign up through GoRockford’s online portal.
Why the expansion matters
By incorporating Davis Park, Stroll on State not only offers a larger parade route but also brings more of Rockford’s downtown attractions into the holiday spotlight.
