Storm rout Sparks 82-64 behind Johnson’s 23-point effort

The Seattle Storm rolled into Crypto.com Arena on Monday and left with a commanding 82-64 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, handing the home side a lopsided defeat behind a balanced offensive attack and a suffocating defensive performance that proved too much for Los Angeles to overcome.

Flau’jae Johnson led all scorers with 23 points, providing the offensive engine Seattle needed to pull away and never look back. Natisha Hiedeman directed the Storm’s offense with a game-high 4 assists, while Dominique Malonga anchored the boards for Seattle with 9 rebounds, helping the Storm dominate the glass throughout the contest.

For the Sparks, Dearica Hamby was the lone bright spot offensively, finishing as Los Angeles’s top scorer with 17 points. Nneka Ogwumike battled hard inside and pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds, giving the Sparks some fight on the glass. Erica Wheeler did her best to keep the offense moving, distributing 7 assists to lead the team in that category, but it wasn’t enough to generate the consistent scoring Los Angeles desperately needed.

Seattle’s defensive intensity told the story of this game perhaps more than any other statistic. The Storm recorded a remarkable 14 steals on the night, a figure that disrupted Los Angeles’s offensive rhythm repeatedly and led to easy transition opportunities at the other end. That kind of pressure made it nearly impossible for the Sparks to establish any sustained momentum.

On the offensive end, Seattle converted 32 of 75 field goal attempts for a 43 percent clip, while connecting on 10 of 33 attempts from beyond the arc — a 30 percent mark from three-point range. The Storm were especially efficient at the free-throw line, converting 8 of 9 attempts for an 89 percent rate. Seattle also controlled the boards with 44 total rebounds, including 37 on the defensive end, effectively limiting Los Angeles to very few second-chance opportunities. The Storm’s 18 assists reflected a team that moved the ball with purpose and shared the scoring load throughout the evening.

The game’s outcome was shaped by Seattle’s ability to generate turnovers and convert them into points. The Storm’s 14 steals created a steady stream of fast-break chances that the Sparks simply could not contain. Los Angeles struggled to find answers defensively and was unable to string together the kind of scoring runs necessary to close what became a significant gap.

The final margin of 18 points underscores how thoroughly Seattle controlled this contest from start to finish. The Storm’s combination of defensive aggression, solid ball movement, and Johnson’s scoring leadership made for a convincing road victory. For the Sparks, the loss is a reminder of the work still ahead as they look to find more consistent offensive production and tighten up their ball security against elite competition.
