Starcloud raises $250 million to expand orbital data center manufacturing in Woodinville

Woodinville, WA – On Friday, Starcloud, a venture‑backed company building data centers in orbit, disclosed a $250 million financing round that lifts its valuation to $2.3 billion. The round was led by Manhattan West and included new investors Nvidia and Cisco Investments, alongside existing backers Benchmark, EQT, Soma and others.

Funding details and investor interest

The infusion brings Starcloud’s total capital raised since its 2024 founding to $450 million. The company previously secured a $170 million round in March that valued it at $1.1 billion. The latest capital will be directed toward expanding manufacturing capacity, deepening engineering collaboration with Nvidia, and procuring components for next‑generation orbital compute hardware.

Local manufacturing expansion

Starcloud announced plans to construct a 100,000‑square‑foot manufacturing facility in Woodinville. The plant will produce the Starcloud‑3 spacecraft, part of a broader goal to deploy a constellation of 88,000 satellites delivering 20 gigawatts of compute power in space. Local officials have welcomed the project, noting the potential for high‑skill jobs and ancillary economic activity in the region.

Partnership with Nvidia

As part of the financing, Starcloud confirmed a technical partnership with Nvidia on the Nvidia Space‑1 Vera Rubin Module. The module is engineered to withstand the radiation and extreme temperature fluctuations encountered in low‑Earth orbit, enabling advanced artificial‑intelligence workloads to run directly from space‑based hardware.

Board and leadership updates

Manhattan West’s Lauren Selig joined Starcloud’s board as an observer, providing additional strategic guidance as the company scales its operations. The leadership team, founded by aerospace veterans, continues to emphasize a blend of private‑sector innovation and rigorous engineering standards.

Industry context

The funding round arrives amid renewed investor enthusiasm for the space sector, sparked in part by SpaceX’s high‑profile initial public offering. Analysts see orbital data centers as a next frontier for AI infrastructure, offering lower latency and reduced terrestrial energy consumption. While the concept remains nascent, Starcloud’s rapid valuation growth suggests strong market confidence in the technology’s long‑term potential.

What this means for the community

The Woodinville facility is expected to create a range of positions, from manufacturing technicians to software engineers, supporting local employment and reinforcing the Pacific Northwest’s reputation as a hub for aerospace and high‑tech development. Community leaders have expressed optimism that the project will complement existing industry clusters while bringing new investment to the area.

Starcloud’s expansion underscores a broader shift toward space‑based solutions for data processing and AI, positioning Washington state at the forefront of this emerging market.
