St. Norbert men’s soccer wins at Stevens Point; women’s team draws with Lawrence

St. Norbert College continued its early‑season momentum on Saturday, earning a 2-1 road win against the University of Wisconsin‑Stevens Point at Loos Family Field. The Green Knights (2-1-1) captured their first road victory of the year after taking a 2-0 lead in the second half.

Senior forward Alex Sada opened the scoring just before the halftime whistle, finding the net at 44:29 to give St. Norbert a 1-0 advantage. Mid‑fielder Davis Vega doubled the lead at 56:19, converting a pass from teammate Charlie Anguil. Stevens Point responded with a consolation goal when Connor Urban converted a penalty at 65:24, but the Green Knights held on for the win.

Statistically, the match was tightly contested. The Pointers outshot the Knights 11‑10, yet St. Norbert generated more shots on goal (8‑4). Sada recorded three shots on target, while teammate Ben Swicionis added two. Goalkeeper Jackson Kiszka made three saves, two of them in the second half, preserving the lead.

Women’s soccer holds Lawrence to a draw

Later that day, the St. Norbert women’s soccer team played a non‑conference match against Lawrence University at Schneider Stadium in De Pere. The contest ended in a 0‑0 stalemate, leaving the Green Knights (1-3-1) unbeaten in the match.

Goalkeeper Leah Hess delivered a standout performance, making five saves, including a crucial stop at 76:22 that kept the score level after a near‑miss header from Lawrence. Sophomore Hess earned her second clean sheet of the season. Offensive chances came from Aleah Reesman and Mya Gonzalez, whose two attempts fell just wide of the post.

Lawrence outshot St. Norbert 15‑2, but the Knights’ disciplined defense and Hess’s goalkeeping prevented any breakthrough. Both teams will look ahead to upcoming non‑conference games before conference play begins next week.

Looking ahead

The men’s squad will close its non‑conference schedule this weekend with games against Lawrence University and Carroll University. The women’s team is set to travel to Lake Forest College in Illinois on Saturday before beginning conference competition against Marian University next Wednesday.

These results underscore the Green Knights’ strong start to the season, highlighting solid defensive play and the ability to finish scoring opportunities. Fans can expect competitive matchups as St. Norbert moves into conference play later this month.
